Taking to his Facebook profile Friday, July 15, National Spokesman Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, expressed gratitude to God for a successful screening exercise, even as he added that the turnout shows a lot of youths want to be useful to society.

"APPRECIATION!

We thank God for a successful screening exercise for intending candidates for the free ICT skill acquisition program. 

"The turnout just to participate in the screening exercise was impressive and the same time challenging too. Impressive because Ijaw youths have demonstrated ones again that they are not lazy, but willing to acquire skills and become more useful for the future if the right systems are put in place. Challenging because while we desire to accommodate all who’d participated in the screening exercise, our capacity is just not enough and support is needed to expand the scope. But however, we are poised to selecting candidates based on merit without cutting corners. 

"Again, the turn out has shown clearly that there’s a lot that still needs to be done in terms of youth capacity building and empowerment. Therefore, relevant agencies doing businesses in Ijaw land, especially the multinational oil companies should redirect their focus more towards capacity building programs/empowerment for youths in the region. This is the only way we can stop youth restiveness, crime and criminality and a stable environment for businesses to thrive. 

"I want to sincerely thank the Honorable Commissioner for Ijaw National Affairs, Hon. Erasmus Patrick and the Ijaw National Congress(INC) Secretary General, Engr. Wodu for gracing the event within a short notice to offer one or two advice. Your remarks was indeed inspiring and thought provoking too. I say a big thank you my leaders!
