It bears repeating that the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria particularly Bayelsa State is blessed with talented youths. Although research shows that the vast majority of creatives lacks the requisite platforms to showcase their talents, the virtue of determination has been instrumental to the relative 'meagre success' they're enjoying.
Paul Kelvin professionally known as Karaokey, a native of Sagbama is one artiste in the area whose singing prowess qualifies him to share the same stage with his counterparts in Lagos - Rema, Omah Lay, Bella Schmurda etc. Born in April 6, 1996, the 4th child in a family of 6 started making music 4 years ago.
In a chat with our reporter, it was revealed that, in his few years in the music industry, the chocolate-skinned singer has been able to release several singles and collaborations including 'Better Days', 2018; 'Compass Daddy', 2019; 'Pray For Me' ft. Funkcleff, 2020; and his latest musical piece 'Body Calling' ft. Lil-tush & Mas.
His passion for making good music have not only resulted in many music lovers chanting his name on social media, but got him a nomination in the category 'Rookie of The Year' BMAA, 2019. Although he lost out to one Kel Vido, his love for making good music wouldn't wane - as he got signed to Dah Crystalz Entertainment, 2021.
Speaking with Pokovirtuousblog about what inspired him to pick a career in music, the Bayelsa-based artiste reveals that his environment and family played a great role in his decision to become an entertainer.
"Great up in a music environment - so basically it's my environment and family".
When asked about what has been the challenges he is facing in his state's music industry, he gave a rather succinct answer.
"There are no sponsors".
On what has been his strength, he responded, 'am still an up-and-coming ooo. Am not good at offering advice'.
Speaking to our reporter about where he would like to see himself career-wise in the nearest future, an energetic Karaokey revealed that he looks forward to have become an household name in the industry the world over, as he listed the factors that has been helping him all these years.
"Being an established act. Humility and consistency is key".
Although the afrofusion artiste is still very much a newcomer in the industry, his amazing singing skills has placed him on a pedestal among his contemporaries . The dude told our reporter that music lovers would do well to keep an eye out for his contents, as he'll be dropping an extended play very soon, noting that the musical project has the best brains working on it.
