The Story Of Drex Adaka: A Glowing Light From An Obscure Region

I have always held the view that Bayelsans are talented, and that you can find a million of them on the streets of the state if only you'd take a walk. I for one always take a walk; on the offline roads of the state as well as the online streets of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram asking the social media channels about Bayelsan artistes - if any is available - what I discover each time I carry out the exercise leaves me speechless.

In the Glory of All Lands, Bayelsa State was born an amazingly talented Afro Singer identified as Adaka Opamietimi Promise known among his colleagues as Drex Adaka. The 3rd born in a family of 4 children who started making music some years ago, seems to be getting better each day as he wouldn't allow anything hinder him from pursuing his passion.

The light-skinned singer who hails from Ikianbiri town, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State is a graduate of Mass Communication from ISCOM University, Cotonou Benin Republic. Speaking with Pokovirtuousblog on how he got inspired to start making music, the singer who would clock 24, June 30th reveals that his father have always been his main source of inspiration, plus his determination to succeed.

"The inspiration behind my music is my dad. He's always been my first inspiration cuz he is equally a musician but on highlife kind of songs. And number 2 I have also been and inspiration to me based on my none stop energy in entertainment.... Right from my childhood I started with dancing, Instruments playing".

The independent artiste who started releasing songs since 2016 has been able to attract a fair chunk of fans. Although he has no album or award under his belt, an energetic Adaka told our reporter that he has dropped several songs: 'Dance Some More' 2016; 'Igbegi' ft. Blackgeez in 2017; 'Mama's Wish' 2018; 'Drunk In Love' 2019; 'Shadey' 2019 among others. As if our interviewer would forget to ask him a question about the future of his music career, the Trap rapper wasted no time in stating that he looks forward to becoming an international music star.

"Before five years time, am taking over not like every other star but like the kind of energy God want to push me with. Want to be one big Artist round the world"

Given that he's been going to school, and still makes time to visit music studios so as to get his songs produced, Pokovirtuousblog asked him about the factors that has been helping him over the years to keep that process interrupted. In response, he stated:

"God is my Helper and non-stop has been my principle.... mum has been my strength.... So we all need these 3keys"

Convinced that there is no place in this world in which one can live without having to deal with one challenge or the other, our reporter asked him about the things he considers 'wrong' in the Bayelsan music industry, and what he thinks need to be done to improve it. From pride to cultism, jealousy, etc the amazing singer stated unequivocally that the state's entertainers would do well to learn to be humble if they're looking to shoot to stardom.

"Things bedeviling bayelsa entertainment are:

jealousy, cultism, pride, lack of higher social media usage.

First no safety so first we need bayelsa to work on the act of cultism and artist should stop feeling too big and let’s work together to achieve things easier"
