Anxiety as hundreds of migrating herders move across villages in Abuja

Vanguard reports that hundreds of herders migrating from Niger Republic moved across several communities in Bwari Council Area of the Federal Capital Territory, to escape a gridlock that hindered them from getting to their destination. The pastoralists who had among them women and children were seen moving with different types of animals: cows, sheeps, donkeys and camel.

The incident which occurred yesterday at about 08:00am around Sabon-Wuse Area, threw a lot of residents into panic mood - however a source revealed that they didn't stay long in the area.

Speaking with Journalist on how they got to the area, local vigilante leader, Hussaini Abubakar stated that there was gridlock around a military checkpoint between Dikko Junction and the town - hence their decision to stop at Sabon-Wuse.

"They were able to cross the road after a while, and we met them across the road, which is under Tafa LGA where we operate.

"We engaged with some of them to know their mission...some of them are from Niger Republic and they were heading to Bauchi State..."

Meanwhile on the comments section of @Vanguardnews on Twitter, a lot of tweeps have since been sharing their views: @Akiim Reid Ado, 'We were made to understand herdsmen are citizens of any country in Africa and that they can go into any country unhindered with their cattles. So they are welcome" among others.
