The prestigious award show, Grammy Awards is one event the majority of artistes the world over aim to clench. Although many do aspire to get the award, only a few seem to actualize the goal - and the shocker is, among the few who have won, some have thrown theirs in the toilet. However, for many artistes of Nigerian origin winning the Grammy is not only a win for their country, but a boost to their musical career as well.


As the 63rd Grammy Awards held last night in Los Angeles, although there was no live audience because of Covid-19 scare, performers did what they know how to do best on the five stages provided even as millions of fans reached fever pitch excitement upon seeing their favourite entertainers take home awards. For Nigerians, Wizkid was celebrated for his 'Brown Skin Girl' on Best Music Video' category, while Burna Boy won the 'Best Global Music Album' beating Antibalas (FU Chronicles), Anoushka Shankar (Love Letters) and others.


In a bid to celebrate the African music legend [Burna Boy], celebrities, fans and friends the world over have since taken to social media to extol him. In Bayelsa, an artiste of Brass origin celebrated for his inspirational musical pieces and amazing singing skills, also took to his social media handle [Facebook] in a series of posts to not only express joy over Burna's win, but the hardwork he puts into every song of his. AFRO stated thus, 'Really I get excited when I see people getting what they worked for. Big ups to Africa'. An hour later he added, 'Burna Boy is a real definition of working hard do pays off. Burna has been on everly but em underrated him. Fam had to go harder till my nigga is twice as tall. Big ups king'.




Pokovirtuousblog learnt that Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu professionally known as Burna Boy is of Port Harcourt origin. The 29-year-old music star who studied Media Technology at the University of Sussex, and Media Communications and Culture at Oxford Brookes University respectively, has 5 albums under his belt ( 'L.I.F.E' 2013, 'Redemption' 2015, 'Outside' 2018, 'African Giant' 2019 and 'Twice As Tall' 2020). Although he lost out to Angelique Kidjo last year, he won last night [2021].
