Rape Is Evil: Say No To Rape - S.A. On New Media To Bayelsan Gov. Douye Diri, Comr. Awudumu Reigneth Campaigns

Bayelsan top Social Media Star, Comr. Awudumu Reigneth campaigns against sexual abuse.

Says it is evil.

The level at which rape is committed against the female folk is not only alarming, but increasing at a geometric rate in which many go unreported too - the Covid-19 induced lockdown worsened it. According to a Human Right Activist, Mrs. Njemanze, 'During the Coronavirus lockdown, we started receiving four to seven cases per day and 70% of them were related to rape' she said. How it saddens to know that the women folk have not only been marginalised, but one that men can coerce at will to satisfy their libido.

The latest rape case in a long line of sexual abuses against women that has set the Nigerian social media space on fire, is the case of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100-level female microbiology student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) that was raped on Wednesday, May 27th 2020 in a parish belonging to the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Benin.

Following her murder, politicians and showbiz personalities have since condemned the act, while social media is awash with millions of tweets demanding for an end to female sexual assault.

In a bid to join the trail of other humane Nigerians like; Tonto Dikeh, Hilda Dokubo and others who have since taken to the streets of Abuja and Lagos demanding for an end to sexual assault against the girl child, the Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Douye Diri, Comr. Awudumu Reigneth has made a clarion-call in the wake of more rape cases for everyone to say 'NO' to sexual abuse against the girl child.

It is key you realize that the S.A. is pained in view of these figures on rape in Nigeria;

• NOIPOLLs in a survey published in 2019 suggested that 1 out of every 3 girls in Nigeria could have experienced rape.

• Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development reports that 1,200 girls were raped in Rivers state in 2012.

And many other reports (plus the ones that go unreported).

The negative effects of rape is enormous as not only do victims experience depression, but a majority contemplate committing suicide too. May we join her to say 'No' to sexual abuse of the girl child.
