Although Nigeria's music industry observers might be bold to state that, Bayelsa's music industry is still in her nascent stage, would they be right saying it doesn't have a wealth of talent?... Certainly not!
Born in Bomadi comnunity, Southern Ijaw Local Government area of Bayelsa state, Anesah David Dalayefa better known as Alaye Pumping is one artist whose singing skills is nothing short of amazing. The Afro-beat singer who came into the world 23rd April, 1992 started doing music at the age of 16.
As the years go by, the singer's passion to perform his art was faced with one important spice of life - the need to acquire tertiary education - hence, the artist had a break, as he got admitted for his undergraduate education in the prestigious Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island in 2011, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts after four years of academic study.
The singer's desire to change the ugly narrative prevalent in his state's entertainment industry spurred him to launch his record label, Joka Empire - where he works on making other promising artists shoot to stardom. Given that he runs a record label, one might think he'll want to kiss his passion as a performing artist good bye - but that's not for Alaye Pumping.
The wonderful singer who sings predominantly in Pidgin and English language released his EP, 'Life of Greatness' in 2019. The debut album which has seven tracks features talented artists of Bayelsa origin.
Although, when he was a teenager he dreamt of becoming an emcee/voice over artist, it would seem he has found a more meaningful purpose in music.
